William M. Pickowitz, 66, of Battle Creek died at home on Friday, November 22, 2013. Bill was born on June 8, 1947 in Battle Creek, Mi to Lahoma Yates and Michael Pickowitz. He grew up in Battle Creek, Kalamazoo and Miami Florida. He graduated from Battle Creek Central High School and attained a Associates Degree from KVCC. He served 2 tours of duty in Vietnam with the US Navy on the USS Guadalupe. He worked and retired from United Parcel Service after 28 years of service.
Bill met his wife Grace on his UPS route and married her in 1991, they had twin sons Michael and William in 1995. His family was his life and was always proud of his sons in all they did especially their musical abilities. He was an avid Pistons fan and was a philatelist (stamp collector).
Surviving are his wife of 22 years, Grace; twin sons, Michael and William; sister, Janice Harding; brother, Randy DeYoung. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, brother and his mother-in-law.
It is with tremendous sadness that the family of Julie Lorraine Kruszka, age 52, of Battle Creek, MI announces the passing of our dear mother, daughter, sister, cousin and friend on Sunday evening, November 24, 2013 at home.
She was born March 28, 1961 in Kalamazoo, MI the daughter of James Raymond Weller and Jeannie Louise (Van Sickler) Weller.
Julie was a medical technician for MPI; she had previously worked at Family Health Center managing the lab for 15 years and simultaneously worked weekends at Pennock Hospital in Hastings.
She graduated from Portage Northern High School in 1979 and got associates degree in Medical Technology from Kellogg Community College in 1994. She was a workaholic and really enjoyed her chosen profession; she liked University of Michigan football games, liked hanging out with her daughters and family.
Julie is survived by three daughters: Amanda Jean Kruszka of Beaverton, OR; Logan Leigh Kruszka and Emerson Elisabeth Kruszka both of Battle Creek, MI; her former husband – Donald Joseph Kruszka of Battle Creek; her mother: Jeannie Louise (Van Sickler) & Jack E. Burpee of Bellevue, MI; her father: James Raymond & Linda L. Weller of Springfield, MI; two brothers: Jeffrey Lee & Linda Weller of Kalamazoo; Keith S. & Debbie Burpee of Murchison, TX; and a sister: Kelly S. & Scott Sandy of Bellevue, MI.
Visitation will be held Saturday, November 30, 2013 from 12:00 PM noon until service time. The funeral services will be held Saturday at 1:00 PM at the Pleasantview Family Church with Pastor Steve Olmstead officiating. Cremation will follow at the Oak Hill Crematory. Margaret Ozell Cribbs
Margaret O. Cribbs went to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 24, 2013, transitioning at her home. Margaret was born on September 7, 1931 to Booker T. and Nannie G. (Cummings) Adams, in Holly Spring, Mississippi. She moved from Mississippi to Battle Creek, Michigan in 1953. Margaret had four children Leon and Leo Alfred from her first marriage; and Eric and Barbara Chapman from her second marriage. She met and married Charles W. Cribbs on December 16, 1972. Margaret (or as her children affectionately called her Ma dea), worked and retired from Kellogg’s after 28 years of service. She was a member of Mt. Zion AME Church. There she served as a dedicated usher as well as holding the position of President. She served her church until she became ill. Her grandchildren will always have warm memories staying the night at Grandma’s.
Margaret loved sewing creating beautiful items, she was a great cook, loved to shop finding great bargains. Her love for each and every one of grandchildren was deep and penetrating. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 40 years, Two children Eric Chapman and Barbara Chapman; Two step-daughters; Yvonne A Cribbs-Hoyt and Charlene J. Cribbs all of Battle Creek; One Sister, Hattie Todd; One Brother, T. Edwon Adams both of Battle Creek; 14 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by both her mother and her father, two children, Leon and Leo Alford; one step-daughter, Doris Jean Cribbs; a sister Ezma Blackful and a granddaughter. Tamika Alford.

Florida Richardson, age 83, of Battle Creek, passed away, Tuesday November 19, 2013 at the Lifespan Good Samaritan Hospice Residence. Florida was born on June 2, 1930 in Livingston, Alabama to Abram and Willie (McElroy) Maye. She married Nixon Richardson in 1951 and came to Battle Creek in 1955. Florida had been employed for over 20 years by the Kiddie Castle Day Care. Florida had attended the Second Missionary Baptist Church and enjoyed spending time with her family, especially taking care of her grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She enjoyed watching television, especially westerns and soap operas. She leaves with cherished memories, a son, Alphonza and his wife Karen Maye, four grandchildren, Kimberly, Christopher, Johnathon and Kyrone Maye, six great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren, brothers, Perry (Waltraud) Maye of Pittsville, NC, Eddie Maye of Battle Creek and Earl (Ethel) May of Battle Creek, sisters, Gertrude (James) Morrison of Birmingham, AL, and Mary N. Hill, of Chicago, IL, many loving nieces, nephews and a host of friends. She will be truly missed by all. It is with tremendous sadness that the family of Dana Lene’ Calvert, age 43, announces the passing of our dear mother, daughter, cousin, and friend on Monday morning November 18, 2013 due to a single car accident in Cooper Township, Kalamazoo, MI.
She was born January 2, 1970 in Battle Creek, MI the daughter of Leo K. Calvert and Annette (Denny) Calvert.
Dana was a certified pharmacy technician at Hometown Pharmacy in Parchment for past 4 years and before that she held several part time jobs. Dana had made her home in Kalamazoo during the past two years. She had never married.
She is survived by her mother: Annette Calvert and her daughter: Brogan Lynn Calvert both of Battle Creek; five aunts: Mary & Joe Licavoli of Kalamazoo, MI; Vickie & Bob Pearce of Burlington, MI; Joan & Marc Colitti of Battle Creek; Janice & Buddy Reynolds of Battle Creek; Bonita Calvert of Three Rivers, MI; one uncle: Jim Denny of Battle Creek, MI; and six cousins.
She was preceded in death by her father: Leo K. Calvert in September 2012; and maternal grandparents: Victor and Opal Denny; paternal grandparents: Glenn Stanley & Luella Calvert and Echo Irene & William I. Williams.
She had graduated from Harper Creek High School in 1988 where she was on the swim team. She was also a graduate of Everest Institute in Kalamazoo 2009 receiving a qualifying certificate to be a pharmacy technician and later she received her National Pharmacy Technician Association certificate in Houston, TX.
She was in Girl Scouts in elementary school; in Junior High she marched in the marching band playing the clarinet and ran track and field.
She liked to read, hang out with daughter and was an excellent cook. She loved animals especially their cat named “Tiger.”
Visitation will be held at the Bachman Hebble Funeral Service on Thursday, November 21, 2013 after 5:00 PM where the family will receive friends from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM. Funeral services commemorating the life of Dana Calvert will be held Friday, November 22, 2013 at 2:00 PM in the Bachman Funeral Chapel with Pastor James Beavers, II officiating.
